Dr Val Corbett


Val Corbett graduated with BCL and LLM degrees from the National University of Ireland, Cork in 1997 and 1998 respectively. He completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning & Teaching from Dublin Institute of Technology in 2008. In 2017, Val was awarded his PhD from Trinity College Dublin.
Val was formerly the Head of the Law School at Independent College Dublin (2007- 2016) and prior to that was Head of the Law School at Griffith College Dublin (2001-2007). His principal research has been concerned with the law of torts, personality rights and employment law. He has published in a number of Irish and international peer-reviewed journals in these fields. He has also published a number of student texts in the Law of Torts and has co-authored Employment Law in Ireland (Clarus Press, Dublin 2009).

Dr Maura Kelly


Dr Maura Kelly has a wide range of experience in the academic and commercial legal environment. She has been involved in many ground breaking projects from establishing the first private law school, Portobello College in 1992 to working with a leading law firm to establish professional development programmes at trainee lawyer to senior associate level. Maura worked with many leading global universities such as the University of Wales; University of West of England; BPP University; University of Cambridge; Judge Business School and INSEAD. Her more recent role focused on designing and delivering quality, customer-focused and commercially-aligned programmes for trainee lawyers through to 6 year qualified senior associates with a top-tier Irish solicitors’ firm.

Maura has been lecturing for over 20 years both in the public and private university sector. Her main areas of expertise are Constitutional and EU law. She holds a PhD in the area of property rights. She has lectured on FE1 courses and the preparatory course for the Kings’ Inns entrance exam. Maura applies a very practical and exam focused approach in her lectures and loves the challenge of leading students through the FE1 ‘experience.’


Veronica McInerney

LLB, Barrister-at-Law

Veronica McInerney graduated with an LLB honours degree from the University of Limerick in 2008. Thereafter she commenced a Ph.D in the University of Limerick. She has lectured in the areas of European Union Law and Administrative Law to undergraduate LLB students and has for the past four years lectured on the Kings Inns and FE1 preparatory courses at Independent Colleges. She also lectures Company law at Trinity College Dublin. Veronica is a practising barrister.

Jane Murphy


Jane is a practising barrister with a special interest in criminal law and employment law. She has lectured and tutored in numerous third level institutions, including to FE1 students on the criminal litigation course in the Law Society. Jane has also lectured in the Garda Síochána College in Templemore. She is a member of the Irish Criminal Bar Association and is on the committee of the Employment Bar Association. Jane holds an Advanced Diploma in Applied Employment Law (King’s Inns, 2018), a Masters in Criminal Justice (University College Cork, 2009) and a Bachelor of Laws in Law and European Studies (University of Limerick, 2008).

Mairéad Deevy


Mairéad is a Business and Law graduate of University College Dublin. She was called to the Irish Bar in 2012; she has a predominantly criminal practice encompassing both Dublin and the South Eastern circuit. Mairéad is also a qualified attorney-at-law having passed the New York Bar exam in 2016. Mairéad has previously taught and mentored students at UCD and those preparing for their U.S. bar exams. She has a particular interest in criminal law and criminological theory.
