Dr Val Corbett

BCL, LLM, PhD

Val Corbett graduated with BCL and LLM degrees from the National University of Ireland, Cork in 1997 and 1998 respectively. He completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning & Teaching from Dublin Institute of Technology in 2008. In 2017, Val was awarded his PhD from Trinity College Dublin.
Val was formerly the Head of the Law School at Independent College Dublin (2007- 2016) and prior to that was Head of the Law School at Griffith College Dublin (2001-2007). His principal research has been concerned with the law of torts, personality rights and employment law. He has published in a number of Irish and international peer-reviewed journals in these fields. He has also published a number of student texts in the Law of Torts the latest of which is Tort Law: Cases in Nutshell (Round Hall, Dublin 2019) and has co-authored Employment Law in Ireland (Clarus Press, Dublin 2009). Val currently teaches Tort Law and Contract Law on the FE1 Preparatory and King’s Inns courses.

Dr Maura Kelly

Dr Maura Kelly has a wide range of experience in the academic and commercial legal environment. She has been involved in many ground breaking projects from establishing the first private law school, Portobello College in 1992 to working with a leading law firm to establish professional development programmes at trainee lawyer to senior associate level. Maura worked with many leading global universities such as the University of Wales; University of West of England; BPP University; University of Cambridge; Judge Business School and INSEAD. Her more recent role focused on designing and delivering quality, customer-focused and commercially-aligned programmes for trainee lawyers through to 6 year qualified senior associates with a top-tier Irish solicitors’ firm.

Maura has been lecturing for over 20 years both in the public and private university sector. Her main areas of expertise are Constitutional and EU law. She holds a PhD in the area of property rights. She has lectured on FE1 courses and the preparatory course for the Kings’ Inns entrance exam. Maura applies a very practical and exam focused approach in her lectures and loves the challenge of leading students through the FE1 ‘experience.’ Maura currently teaches Constitutional Law and EU law on the FE1 Preparatory course.

Eoin OConnor

Dr Eoin O'Connor

Dr Eoin O’Connor is a practising barrister. He is a member of the Bar of Ireland, the Bar of Northern Ireland and the Bar of England & Wales. He received his BCL from University College Cork, and his PhD from Trinity College Dublin. He also lectures on the TCD LlM and teaches evidence and criminal law in the Honorable Society of King’s Inns. He is the author (with Michael Lynn SC) of National Security Law in Ireland (Bloomsbury, Dublin 2019). Eoin currently teaches Criminal Law and Equity and Trusts on the FE1 Preparatory course.

Elizabeth-Ann Kirwan

Elizabeth-Ann Kirwan is a practising barrister. She is a member of the Bar of Ireland and holds a Barrister-at-Law Degree from the Honorable Society of the King’s Inns. Elizabeth-Ann is an experienced educator, communicator, and advocate. She is a qualified teacher, with a wide teaching experience, including design and delivery of CPD for professionals across Ireland. Elizabeth-Ann has also worked in the legal and industrial relations sector for many years, advising and representing employees and managers through employment and professional statutory procedures. Elizabeth-Ann currently teaches Company Law on the FE1 Preparatory Course.

Stephen Faulkner

Barrister-at-Law

Stephen Faulkner is a practising barrister.  He holds a Barrister-at-Law Degree and a Diploma in Legal Studies from the Honorable Society of King’s Inns, and a postgraduate award in Forensic Computing & Cybercrime specialising in Fraud & E-Crime from University College Dublin. He is a winner of the Eamon Leahy Memorial Prize at the Honorable Society of King’s Inns awarded for the highest mark in Criminal Law for the Diploma in Legal Studies.  Stephen currently teaches Property Law on the FE1 Preparatory course.
