The Law Society of Ireland FE1 Entrance Examinations

This course is delivered through classroom lectures and simultaneously streamed live online. All classes are recorded and available for repeat viewing throughout the duration of the course. These courses are normally delivered twice per year beginning in early June and early November. Students are free to enrol at any point during the course of the year and receive immediate access to the latest videos and learning material. Each course involves 15 weeks of tuition. Classes take place from our campus on Lad Lane (off Baggot St) where study and canteen facilities are available to all our students.

  • Option of live classroom, live online, or recorded lectures
  • “Pass Guarantee” – entitled to free repeat of course once paid for

The Law Society of Ireland FE1 Entrance Examinations

In order to be considered eligible to take the FE1 Entrance Examinations one must have passed the Law Society of Ireland’s Preliminary Examination. The following candidates may be exempted from the Preliminary Examination and therefore eligible to sit the FE1 Entrance Examinations:

Graduates
University graduates from Ireland and the United Kingdom or holders of degrees (regardless of the discipline) awarded by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC) are exempt from this examination. Holders of such degrees are not required to apply for exemption from the Preliminary Examination but they must provide a certified copy of their degree certificate when applying to sit the Final Examination – First Part.

Foreign graduates
Holders of degrees from other universities may apply for an exemption from the Preliminary Examination. Such applications should be accompanied by a copy of the degree certificate, certified by a practising lawyer in the applicant’s original jurisdiction, or a practising lawyer admitted in Ireland (Republic). The certificate must state that the copy is a true copy of the original and that the original has been produced to the person so certifying.
Law Clerks and Legal Executives
Law clerks and legal executives can apply for exemption if:
•    they have at least five years experience and hold a diploma in Legal Studies, or an equivalent qualification, or
•    have in excess of ten years experience (diploma in Legal Studies not required).

Eligible candidates may sit the FE1 Entrance Examinations which are normally held in Spring and Autumn of each year. Students must make an application to sit the examination directly to the Law Society of Ireland www.lawsociety.ie.
